See who won the 2015 competition and choose your stock for 2016.

JOHANNESBURG – It was a terrible year for platinum producers. But that didn’t stop Jubilee Platinum from delivering the best share price performance in Moneyweb’s stock-pick competition for 2015.

Jubilee, an exploration company that also processes tailings (mine dumps), delivered a return of 163%. The stock was chosen by six Moneyweb community members: Naude du Toit, James Fraser, Mohamed Laher, Greg White, Charlie Sanders and Nico du Preez.

The competition offers the Moneyweb community a chance to show off their stock-picking skills (and luck). It is an informal competition, with no prizes other than bragging rights. At the beginning of the year, each entrant chooses one JSE-listed company. The best performer for the year wins.

As with other previous winning stocks, Jubilee has gone largely unnoticed by local professional investors. Most of its shares are held by offshore investors.

In second place was Alan Singer with his choice of Sekunjalo Investments, which later became African Equity Empowerment Systems. Third place went to Mike Cullabine with his choice of Ansys.

If you want to enter the competition for 2016, send your stock pick to julius@moneyweb.co.za with the subject heading “stock pick”. Entries close on January 17.
